A tragic crash near Gundagai claimed a woman’s life and left an infant in hospital on Tuesday, December 2, in the Riverina region.
Emergency crews were dispatched shortly after 9:30 am to the Hume Highway near Gundagai after reports of a collision. Riverina Police District officers arrived to find a white SUV had veered off the roadway and struck a tree.
The woman driving the vehicle, believed to be in her 30s, received treatment from NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene but succumbed to injuries and was pronounced dead. The infant passenger, the only other occupant, also received on-site medical attention before being airlifted to Canberra Hospital in a stable condition.
Authorities have established a crime scene and launched an investigation into the crash’s circumstances. A coroner’s report will be prepared as part of this process.
